Frequently asked questions
Yes! You can freeze avocados and store them for 4-6 months. You can freeze avocados whole, in halves, mashed or in pieces. Spritzing them with lemon juice and sealing them in a plastic bag is the most effective way to keep them tasty for when you want to thaw them out and enjoy them.
Unripe avocados: It is best to store unripe avocados in a cool, dark place, like a benchtop or in the pantry. While they are unripe, do not refrigerate. On the benchtop, your unripe avocado can take 3-7 days to ripen. You can tell your avocado is ripe because it should yield gently to pressure when you squeeze it, but not be squishy.
Ripe Avocados: When ripe, your uncut, unpeeled avocado can be stored in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks. The best spot for it is your crisper, but make sure it’s in a spot where it isn’t getting too squished – this will lead to bruising.
If you have cut your avocados, they should be refrigerated. To prevent browning, brush the exposed flesh with lemon juice and cover tightly with cling wrap or a beeswax wrap. Try and use up cut avocados as soon as possible.
You can also freeze ripe avocados. One way is by mashing them and mixing with some lemon juice, then putting them in an ice cube tray.”
